In 2012 I took part in the #MyTopBillingDream presenter search. At the regional auditions in Bloemfontein I remember how nervous I was when I went to audition. I walked into that audition room, had to speak while doing the infamous “Top Billing walk” across the room and silently praying that I wouldn’t trip over a cable or even my own feet.
I made it past that stage and was absolutely thrilled to learn a few nerve wrecking days later that I had been shortlisted and had made the Top 100. It wasn’t long before I found myself flying to Johannesburg where they had arranged a chauffeur to take me from the airport to Protea Hotel Wanderers where we would be staying. The experience along and the treatment that I received from the staff and those involved is something I would treasure.
The time came to put my best foot forward and impress Eugene Khoza, Patience Stevens (Producer) as well as Jeannie D. I opted to do a link to an interview with award winning South African musician Donald and my piece went a little something like this…
“When Evelyn Moatshe gave birth in a small village called Mantserre in the North West province, little did she know that one day her bundle of joy would be a house hold name. Fast forward to 28 years later and Donald’s album “Train of Love” is not only flying of the shelves but his first three singles “I Deserve”, “Denial” and “Over the Moon” quickly soared up music charts across the country. I caught up with the humble heartthrob to find out exactly what makes him tick.”
And while I may not have made it any further, this experience remains one of my fondest memories.
